Lesser Celandine

Paper Piecing Pattern 15 x 15 cm

In spring, the joyfully dotted carpets of Lesser Celandine are a garden delight and also found in the wild. The radiant yellow flowers are dancing above a rich green cushion of heart-shaped leaves.

A star shaped flower requires 7 segments and 46 parts, but I think it is worth the effort!

The individual flower has eight to eleven brilliantly yellow petals. The stamens and punches are hard to see as they are just as yellow as the petals. Use embroidery or beading to enhance the center.

Blue flowers: Chicory

Paper Piecing Pattern 20 x 20 cm

Chicory

Chicory is showing it's bright blue flowers well into October. The single bloom opens at daybreak in bold blue, fades rapidly during the morning and is already pale and scraggly looking by early afternoon. The next morning the cycle begins anew; sufficient buds are available on the long stems.

A special feature are the blue stamens.

There are more blue flowers among my Patterns; i.e. the down Bell Flower and the down Wood Squill.
The pattern set to site Year of Flowers also includes some blue blossoms.

Many samples for color combinations and the different use of the block may be found in the to site guest gallery.

Jubilee Rose

Jubilee Rose

In January 2013 my website was online for five years. I celebrated this with the Jubilee Rose pattern. By my readers request I added a bud and now there is a half opened rose too.

Many quilters sewed along with me; they send photos as well as "real" roses. They are used in my to site Rose Quilt but there are still a few waiting. 50 Blocks have been much too much for a single wall hanging!

At the to site Guest Gallery you may marvel at many already sewn rose quilts.

Tete-a-Tete

Paper Piecing Pattern
Finished block size: 10" x 10" plus seam allowances

Spring - to me it is represented by the little Tete-a-Tete narcissus you can place on your window sill. There they are producing their delicious blooms for a long time. The fresh green and yellow enliven my mind after long grey winter days.

As this block is fairly large compared with my usual block size I decided to divide the background for use with various sky fabrics.

You may also sew a plain background with fewer seams; this variation is included in the pattern.
